Arun Mandola: If your mind is in a happy space, it means you are healthy inside out

Arun Mandola feels mental health is key to healthy living. The actor opines that if a person is mentally healthy, then they can deal with any difficult situation in life.

“If your mind is in a happy space, it means you are healthy inside out. And I think we must understand that taking care of your mental health is as important as taking care of your physical health. Many tend to forget that. I generally talk less to keep my mind calm and sleep well for good mental health but I feel meditation and yoga are the Bhramastras for good mental health,” says the actor known for TV shows Sankatmochan Mahabali Hanuman and Vighnaharta Ganesh.
Arun highlights that everyone in this world faces anxiety and depression. “So do actors. We are always in the limelight so it becomes really difficult for us and when our situation comes out in public, people start talking about it and we become easy targets. After all, there are still prejudices attached to mental health. I don't think anyone would like to show off that they are mentally ill to gain publicity. We know how many have taken drastic steps too, so I feel these judgments should stop,” he adds.

On days when he feels low, the actor practices meditation and a high-intensity workout. Sometimes he cleans his house and watches movies too.

“Meditation is the best thing to take care of your mental health but it is not easy. You need to practice every day to attain that calmness. Once your body gets habituated, you will be able to control your stress level,” he adds.

Talking about the suicides in the entertainment industry, the actor shares that such news is shocking and sad. “When my friend actor Sandeep Nahar attempted suicide and he spoke about suffering from depression, I was heartbroken. I did not know what to do. He was getting good work in Bollywood yet something was bothering him. We don’t do anything for mental health and it is necessary to connect with everyone we know, keep checking on them. Spirituality also helps. It helps you stay positive and calm,” he says.
