Mohit Chauhan on Control Room: With a room filled with uniquely skilled characters it’s not going to be easy to find control, hence the drama is inevitable

Mohit Chauhan is seen as the police commissioner Vishwasrao Patil in Yash Patnaik and Mamta Patnaik’s Control Room. Apart from liking his character, the actor also praises the title of the show that he finds simple yet well defined, and therefore apt for the story.
Control Room is an investigative police drama. “I think the concept of the show is quite fascinating. With a room filled with such uniquely skilled characters it’s not going to be easy to find control and hence the drama is inevitable. A lot of research has gone into making this real and relatable. I shaved off my beard for my role. After seeing my clean-shaven look, it seemed like I was in disguise playing different parts with the beard. Finally, in this chapter of the show I trim my beard and reveal my true face. Also I watched lots of crime shows to understand the genre better,” he says.

Revealing more about his character, Mohit adds, “Vishwasrao Patil has many different layers to him. Sometimes he is going to be good and very caring toward his team when they solve the missions, and sometimes he is like a typical boss. He is lenient and doesn’t go out of the boundaries much. My role is quite tight and simple.”

Every actor dreams of wearing a uniform on screen. “At a young age when I did shows, every time I used to be assigned police roles, I feared that I would get stereotyped. I did many episodes of Crime Patrol and later avoided taking any similar roles. Then I got dad’s role and I started getting stereotyped in those roles. Out of all, I realised wearing a uniform is much better. You feel proud and now I am back and it feels nice to wear the uniform. It's always something I loved to do. I have a huge respect for people wearing khaki vardis. They work very hard, it’s a 24-hour job that doesn’t stop,” he shares.

Sharing his experience of working with Beyond Dreams and the Patnaiks, Mohit only has nice things to say. He adds, “They are amazing producers, are always open to suggestions and available. This is my third project with them and they are like a family. Mamta is very creative and has apt answers and I love to work with them time and again.”
