Monika Singh on Preity Zinta's being harassed by fans: Fans need to realise boundaries

Recently actress Preity Zinta posted about how she was harassed by fans. While one lady planted a kiss on her child’s cheek, another man almost followed her cars, harassing her for money. While the photographers just stood and laughed. Actress Monika Singh who has been part of shows like Kulfi Kumar Bajewala and Bahut Pyaar Karte hai, says as a celebrities, these incidents become tough to handle.
“As a celebrity, I understand the challenges that come with being in the public eye. It is unfortunate that incidents like these happen and it is never okay for anyone to be harassed or threatened, whether they are a celebrity or not. Fans need to realise that we have boundaries and simply admire us from a distance without violating our privacy or causing harm to us or our families,” she says.

She adds, “It can be difficult to control fans at times as they are often eager to meet and interact with us. But I believe that celebrities have a responsibility to ensure that their fans understand appropriate conduct and abide by it. We should also take necessary steps to protect ourselves and our families from such situations.”

The paparazzi culture really seems to have taken off in India now. But these photographers also need to respect limits and boundaries, says Monika, adding, ‘As for the paparazzi, they play a crucial role in our industry, but at times, they can make it tough for us to manage things. It is important that they respect our privacy and refrain from any intrusive behaviour. Many of us have faced harassment and invasion of personal space on several occasions which is not acceptable.”

She says, “In summary, celebrities are entitled to lead a private life, and we must insist on the importance of respecting personal boundaries both from fans and the paparazzi. It is essential to treat them with kindness, but at the same time, there must be mutual respect, understanding, and civility in all situations.”
